About Kitale
Kitale is an agricultural town and it is known to be one of the most fertile areas in Kenya. It is reputed to be the granary belt of the region as most foods come from Kitale supplying most of Kenya. It is also known to be as one of the safest areas to live in. For example during the post election violence, most people took refuge in Kitale whilst other towns were under siege and people were under threat. Since that time a lot of people have relocated to Kitale after their experiences during that awful time.
Kitale is known to be a town which has many different tribes all living in the same area so you will find many different mother tongue languages. In other towns you will find that there are certain tribes that dominate the town but Kitale is not that way. Sadly, as with others rural towns in Kenya, it has a large population of street children. Almost all of those children are addicted to sniffing glue which will limit their life and most will not in many cases reach to see the age of 18. Kitale is also the place of the end of the railway in Kenya. They say here in Kenya "mwisho wa reli" which means like the end of Kenya! (Bill & Naomi Koech)
